Opportunities for wildlife viewing abound within The Grampians. Almost
two hundred species of birds have been recorded within the park. Cockatoos,
parrots, honeyeaters, kookaburras, waterbirds . . . through to the massive
wedge-tailed eagle can be observed. You can't visit the park without seeing
an emu!
Mammalian
species number over 40. These include kangaroos, possums, sugar-gliders,
koalas and echidnas. Red-neck wallabies, Grey Kangaroos, Brush-tailed
wallabies and even a Black Wallabies can be observed. Reptillian species
are also numerous, watch out for tiger-snakes, brown-snakes, and black-snakes.
About twenty-eight species of reptiles, including the long-necked tortise,
have been noted in The Grampians.
Of course, there are plenty of fish in the waterways, and amphibian species
in inhabit ponds and swampy regions.
